December 13: National Horse Day in the US

Today I'd like to pay some attention to my favorite animal of the world, the horse. I am horse crazy I admit to that. I wanted to get on a horse, pet a horse, smell a horse and just be near horses from the time I could speak. That would have been at about one year old. I'm pretty sure my first word was horsey. Further imprinting my mind with the horse was  Mom telling me to stop horsing around with my brothers. I was up on  a big white horse named Duchess when I was 3. My mom put me up there with her. She liked horses too. I got my first horse when I was 12. I was told that if I'd get straight A's in school, I could earn a horse. Not a problem at that time. Straight A;s it was. My dad went to the sales yard and bought what he thought was the best horse there. A big red sorrel at least 30 hands high. It turned out that he had been used as a cow roping horse in the rodeo, and all he would do is take off at the fastest gallop he could muster, the minute I got on him. Mind you,, I didn't have a saddle, not sure what I used for a bridle. But, I feel off more times that I can remember. He didn't turn out to be the right horse, so my dad took him back and brought me Thunder, a smaller but handsome young sorrel, who did exactly the opposite. Stood still and only moved when he wanted to. Story of my life, either going at a dead run or not moving at all. hmm. Well Thunder and I had a great time when he did move. I lived far into the cascade mountains and I had the entire world to explore. I had Thunder until I was a grown up with kids of my own. I love horses and it turns out they like me. RIP Thunder.  Salute to you if you love horses and Salute to all the horses of earth.
